In all England there are few taverns blessed with such a position.Fire ravaged the Inn when the Earl of Manchesters men bombarded York in 1644 and over a hundred years later the Lamb was rebuilt by a wealthy butter merchant in 1756. Today, the Inn is one of the finest in our medieval city. With dark corridors, staircases and little snugs everywhere, the Lamb and Lion breathes the atmosphere of a time gone by.We offer free parking in the centre of York! Please reserve your car parking permit with us when making your reservation.A member of Classic British Hotels The hotel is located on High Petergate, just next to the Bootham Bar inside the city walls. The Minster can be used as a good landmark by which to find the hotel. From the M1 - At junction 32, take the M18 link to A1 North. At junction 2 take the A1 North. Continue until the sign marked York A64. Travel East on the A64. Take the A1237 (York North and Thirsk). Continue for 5 miles following sign to Thirsk (A19). At the roundabout that intersects the A19, turn right (signposted YorkCentre A19). Continue for approximately 2 miles until you reach the city walls. At the final set of traffic lights a large stone archway can been seen, known as Bootham Bar. The Lamb and Lion is located on the inside of the city walls. Please be aware that High Petergate Street is pedestrianised between the hours of 11am and 4pm. Please drive to the hotel first where luggage can be unloaded and your car parking permit can be collected. Please ensure parking is reserved at the time of reservation. To collect your permit you may stop either outside the Bootham Bar archway or at the other end of High Petergate, near the Minster. The hotel will then direct you to the Marygate Car Park with your permit.
